Wood Bleach (Oxalic acid) Oxalic acid removes stains caused by iron, water and tannic acid, as in the combination of nails, rain and oak. It is the ingredient in most wood deck "brighteners". It will lighten the graying effects of wood exposed to the outdoors and re-establish an even tone to the wood, particularly oak. Wood bleach also removes rust stains, and black water stains.
