Mother Natures Repellent

The continuing use of chemicals and poisons to control a variety of pest has caused many problems. The use of these pesticides is harmful to the environment and often resulting in their being present in our lakes, rivers, and the foods we eat. The use of poisons is risky for humans, pets and domestic animals, it is imperative that alternative methods of rodent, insect, marine pests and damaging "critter" control be found.

One example is capsaicinoids which are responsible for the heat in chile peppers, the hottest and most famous called capsaicin is known to have been successfully used as an animal repellent for more than 120 years and more recently Scientists at New Mexico Tech and Texas A & M Universities discovered the naturally repellent qualities of Capsicum when mixed into carrier oils and coatings to be extremely effective in repelling insects and rodents.

Other examples of non-toxic deterrents to insects and animals are repellents that work by emitting an odor. One such repellent was developed in Sweden in 1991 in response to commercial forest plantations being decimated by deer, elk, moose and rabbits. The forest industry needed an animal repellent that could last through severe weather and meet Sweden's strict environmental laws. The repellent works by emitting an odor that animals associate with predator activity, repelling the animal before it nibbles on plants.
A few other natural repellents are a bitter substance extracted from concord grape seeds, neroli oil, orange oil, tea tree oil etc.
Even wool grease extracted from lambs wool has been proven to deter termites.
Until now pepper extracts were extracted utilizing solvents which rendered them worthless in water base applications and the solvents (hexane) also contributed to their high level of VOC's (volitle organic compounds).
Hy-Tech Thermal Solutions, a global leader in the production and development of ceramic microspheres, has developed a unique blend of ceramic microspheres bonded with various capsaicinoids and other natural repellents. These microscopic hard ball bearing like spheres have a proven track record as insulating additives which can be mixed into paints, stains, plastics, composites, sealants, and other products and are now being utilized in Hy-Tech
Eco Pel concentrate, an insect and rodent repellent additive for any base material, oil, solvent, wax or water without becoming chemically encapsulated thus allowing the potent deterrent to be readily available throughout the carriers life span. Common "pepper extracts" do become molecularly bonded and encapsulated thus worthless once the surface of the carrier material is fully cured. The ceramic microspheres are like microscopic ball bearings with a crush strength of 60,000 pounds per square inch. Even squirrels with their 20,000 psi jaw crush strength cannot compete with the hard shell of the ceramics. Hy-Tech Thermal Solutions is producing several "Eco Pel" products with more in the development stage:

  • Hy-Tech Cable Coat #88 Rodent and fire control for the fiber optics, automotive, seismic and traditional cable and wire applications.
  • Additional rodent control through treated caulking and sealants is available,
  • Insect and rodent control in various agricultural applications; Let us develop a "solution" for your insect or rodent problems.
  • Maritime coatings for both freshwater and saltwater ships, boats and other vessels to repel Barnacle's and Zebra mussel control. Hy-Tech is testing several formulations that are proving to be extremely effective.
  • Termite control in the forestry and wood products industries plus protection for construction lumber and utility poles;
    Eco-Pel Wood Oil an all natural oil treatment for wood that repels rodents, termites and other wood destroying species while offering outstanding waterproofing.
  • Damage to buildings caused by wood boring birds could be reduced;
  • Farm animals, deer, beaver and similar damage causing species can also be repelled.
  • Elastoseal The ultimate protection for log and wood homes...a clear rubberlike finish that expands and contracts with wood movement is now available with the additive "Eco Pel"
